Music Production

Making music, recording, editing, mixing, + finishing projects in a music software of your choice.

Ableton Live is my DAW of choice, but I regularly work with students using Logic Pro, GarageBand, + Soundtrap.

We’ll cover MIDI, software instruments, effects, plugins, studio setups, synthesis, sound design, genre techniques, etc +++

Modular Synthesis

My primary instrument and method of making music is with this wild machine. Let’s secure an understanding of the fundamentals of synthesis, module types, signal flow, + sound design. Soon, we’ll dive deep into more esoteric techniques and complex patching.

We’ll work together to make your first modular system. In time, you’ll develop a compositional and/or improvisational practice with the instrument that will naturally grow + unfold to new and exciting areas in your own practice.

No hardware synths required.

Electronic Music Composition

All things related to making music with electronics + a computer. Through bespoke projects designed to achieve your goals, we work together as you develop a music making practice.

We’ll move from the most fundamental music software and equipment skills to making full tracks to performing with electronics.

Software topics include recording, arranging, editing, + mixing. Equipment topics include studio setups, audio interfaces, the ins + outs of connecting types of gear, + live setups. Compositional approaches we may explore include MIDI songwriting, stylistic/genre techniques, improvisation, generative/algorithmic composition, + developing your own unique approaches.

Guitar

I grew up playing guitar + studied classical guitar formally earning my MM from Cleveland Institute of Music + BM from Arkansas State University.

My guitar students learn songs by ear, from charts, and from tabs. They learn how to read and interpret sheet music. They learn the basics of improvising in traditional + non-traditional idioms. They study guitar theory to gain a deep understanding of the fretboard and develop a strong foundational technique to play efficiently.

Most students study a wide variety of styles throughout the course of their lessons, but some eventually focus on a particular style.

How Do Lessons Work?

It’s a four month program with an option to renew. I often work with students for several years, but some come to achieve a particular goal + then move on to work on their own. A four month commitment helps ensure our dedication to working together + to achieving your goals.

The total cost is divided into four equal monthly payments. If the cost is out of your budget, I have some spots reserved at a sliding scale. Payments are automatic via CC.

We’ll have a free meet + greet online to discuss how I can help you + all the other necessary specifics.

Other Highlights

Lessons are available in-person at my studio or virtually on Zoom.

If you’re interested in virtual lessons, I can help you get setup + ready for the sessions. It’s easy!

Scheduling is simple + done online featuring integrated reminders + automatic payments.

Students have access to a site dedicated to their own projects, goals, + helpful resources. Students can add to their page, creating a home base for our lessons together.
